10 (Other) Movies About Wrestling That Hollywood Needs To Make

9. Mick Foley's Road To The WWF Title

Mick Foley aka Mankind's face-turn was one that worked against considerable odds, largely due to Foley's larger-than-life, sympathetic personality and often hilarious mic skills. His road to the WWF Title, however, was a long one, becoming the victim of frequent screw-jobs by The Corporation, headed by Mr. McMahon. Foley's day finally came on the January 4, 1999 edition of RAW, when Mankind won the title from The Rock, with it changing on a weekly TV show being unprecedented enough that large numbers of viewers switched over from watching WCW Nitro to see Foley win the title on Raw (a fact facetiously advertised by WCW prior, one which back-fired hugely). His entire trajectory, of triumphing over adversity, was often paralleled with Rocky Balboa's rise to fame in his series of movies, both because of his "never say die" attitude, and more blatantly, because he shouted "Adrian, I did it!" when he finally won the belt. This was an underdog story fans could get behind like no other, and it's something that's increasing rare in the WWE these days.
