10 Out Of This World Sci-Fi Horror Movie Deaths
5. Sliced In Half - Slither
Horror movie history is filled with unforgettable instances of bisection, with everything from Final Destination 2 to Wrong Turn 2 to some movies that don't have 2 in their titles (presumably) featuring gruesome instances of characters being split in two onscreen. So what makes 2006's Slither stand out in a packed crowd?
Well, it's mainly the fact that this shocking death scene from future Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn is so funny.
The former Troma employee brings the blackly comic approach of the infamous indie studio to this unfortunately overlooked tale of a town besieged by monstrous alien parasites, and the film is filled with blackly comic brutality at every turn.
However the stand out scene which managed to merit inclusion on this exclusive list of the sci-fi horror sub genre's best deaths has to be the poor redneck sliced in two by an errant tentacle.
In the wrong place at the wrong time, the minor character attempts some heroics as he pulls a gun on Michael Rooker's rapidly mutating monster, unaware of the reach said monster's newfound tentacles have. Newfound razor sharp tentacles, that is.
Left standing with a confused stare for a few seconds, the chump just about has time to react with grim resignation before his two halves slide apart and prompt one of the sub genre's guiltiest laughs in the process.
