Any fan of sci-fi horror knew that this list had to include at least one entry from 1982's remake of the corny fifties horror The Thing From Another World.

Unsuccessful at the box office thanks to America's love affair with another, friendlier extra-terrestrial creation from Jaws helmer Stephen Spielberg, Assault on Precinct 13 director John Carpenter's The Thing saw the Halloween filmmaker turn Howard Hawks' corny original into a devastatingly dark and bleak slice of paranoid horror. The film was elevated by incredible effects work from The Howling's Rob Bottin, with the twenty three year old working himself to the point of exhaustion onset to ensure the prosthetics were as effective as possible.

It was worth the effort, as evidenced in the infamous moment which is listed here.

Of the many iconic deaths featured in the film, this one which earned a place on this list is the shocking (hoho) scene wherein a victim's chest opens up mid-defibrillation, revealing a toothy bear-trap chest wound, and promptly clamps down on the arms of the doctor attempting to resuscitate him, tearing them clean off in the process.

That's a two-for-one deal on this onscreen death, but you'll likely be too busy reeling in shock or retching in the aisles to notice.

At least, it's more than likely fair to say that the man transforming into nightmarish spider-legged severed head once the titular alien parasite gets under his skin is also dead.
