5. Jim Gordon Is Dead
If Zack Snyder is looking to shake up the world of Batman on the big screen, killing off Commissioner Jim Gordon is the way to do it. It explains why we've heard nothing about this major character in Batman canon being cast. And, with this version of the Caped Crusader having been in operation for over 15 years, Gordon could have been killed at any time. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice apparently makes no mention of how or when that was, but his death is revealed via a memorial plaque which appears at some point in the movie. Since then, other sites have claimed to have heard that The Joker was the one responsible for killing Gordon, while Ellen Yinde is said to be his replacement. If that name rings a bell, it's because she was the Gotham City police commisioner in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, a story the movie is heavily inspired by. Why kill Gordon? Well, his death could be further explored in a future solo outing for Batman, or it could be that Warner Bros. want to keep the focus on the TV version.
