10 Outlandish The Dark Knight Rises Rumours That Didn't Come True

2. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Alberto Falcone

Speculation: It's a story so salient and believable that even Variety ended up reporting it, that Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who of course did genuinely join the cast, would be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Gotham's mob boss Carmine, played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins. It's a story made further believable given that Falcone featured in one of Nolan's favourite and most-referenced Batman stories, The Long Halloween. Fact: Two days after Variety broke that Levitt would be taking on the role of the mob boss's son, The Hollywood Reporter, another extremely reputable outlet, rebuked that a source close to Christopher Nolan told them that the casting was incorrect. And of course, Warner later offered an official statement confirming that Levitt was playing an original Nolan conception, in Gotham City police officer John Blake, who would eventually turn out to be perhaps the most important cog in the story's machinery after all.
