10 Over-Hyped $100 Million Budgeted Movies NOBODY Even Remembers Now

7. The Adventures Of Pluto Nash

There's no denying that Eddie Murphy was one of the most bankable comedy actors of the late '90s and early '00s, such that when Warner Bros. spent $100 million on the Murphy-starring sci-fi comedy The Adventures of Pluto Nash, there wasn't much initial reason to be worried.

A sci-fi comedy where Murphy plays two roles, accompanied by some truly insane VFX and a diverse cast including Randy Quaid, Rosario Dawson, Joe Pantoliano, Luis Guzmán, Pam Grier, and John Cleese?

There's a lot of intrigue here, and yet today Pluto Nash is really only remembered for one reason - it's one of the biggest box office flops of all time.

A classic case of a film that simply didn't come together during production, as Murphy struggled to find the comedy in the hit-and-miss script, Pluto Nash grossed just $7.1 million worldwide.

It's a shockingly pathetic number that ensured it had no chance of recouping its costs even with home video sales factored in.

Yet if you ask anybody what the movie is actually about, even most of the people who've actually seen it will look at you blankly, given that the end result is really just a messy sludge of incoherent ideas.
