10 Overblown Film Directors Who Need To Learn The Meaning Of Restraint

4. The Wachowskis

wachowskis_sbs645.jpg w=630 The Wachowski's rose to international fame following the success of The Matrix in 1999. While some claim the film is immature in its approach to storytelling, no one could argue that it set a benchmark with incredible visual effects that forever changed the face of action cinema. How did the Wachowski's follow this landmark movie? With two ridiculous sequels that took everything that was good about the original film and bloated it with huge amounts of expository dialogue and more CGI than a Pixar film. Next, the Wachowski's released Speed Racer, a movie so overloaded with special effects that it actually hurts your eyes to watch. With its epic scope and strong source material, Cloud Atlas could have been their saving grace, but it's almost like the Wachowski's enjoy making their scripts as convoluted as possible purely for the sake of it. Who needs coherent storytelling anyway? Directors and scriptwriters. That's who.
