10 Overexposed Actors Who Should Take A Break Before We Get Sick Of Them

4. Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling Ryan Gosling's career took a sudden turn when he remerged after a three-year acting hiatus in the brilliant Blue Valentine. Since then, he's gone on to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars, transforming his image as a "handsome male love interest" in romantic comedies to an actor of real depth and weight - his name is even used frequently as a shorthand for cool. But in the last two years, Gosling has appeared in a whopping eight movies. And now this talented actor needs to take a break, I think. Not because I'm particularly sick of him, but because he risks repeating himself: Drive was a revelation, establishing Gosling as a broody sex icon, macho and mostly silent, like a modern James Dean. We got a similar version of that character in the good but bombastic Place Behind the Pines, though, and what felt like a parody of this new Gosling archetype in the terrible God Only Forgives. Undoubtably one of the finest actors of his generations, some career recalibration is in order, and I believe movie-goers would benefit from a period of non-Gosling.
