4. Affleck Deserves This Opportunity To Play Batman
Some of the loudest arguments against Affleck are the debates involving Daredevil. Fair enough, but with provisions. He wasn't actually what was bad in that movie. The script was terribad, the villains were pretty ridiculous and stupid. Even if Michael Clarke Duncan was interesting, he had his moments of exceedingly terrible acting. You can tell he was just having fun, and didn't take the role seriously. Colin Farrell was the epitome of suck, and quite possibly the worst villain portrayal next to Doug Hutchison's "Looney Bin Jim." On both occasions you'd rather watch Arnold's one liners in Batman and Robin, that is saying something. All in all, there was a director and producer that signed off on the dailies of that film, and deserve a large portion of the suck meter that Affleck is getting too much credit for. Affleck was actually pretty good as Matt Murdock. He looked great in the suit; the action was also pretty decent. We could have all lived without the fight scene in the park, and there are little words left for the level of cheese we all took on that film. Yet the fact still remains it was financially sound and did well enough to spawn the Elektra spinoff. A far worse film on the suck meter than Daredevil. Affleck deserves to be able to portray Batman in this film and silence any doubt that he can be a great Superhero character. Some folks say look at his portrayal of George Reeves in Hollywoodland which was a great film, but it's not really the same thing. He portrayed Reeves portraying the serial version of Superman, so he wasn't really Superman, per se, and it's a far cry from a comic book film. It was a wonderful indie film on the troubled life Reeve had, as a struggling actor. It did however reflect how Affleck can be a grandiose character that was considered beneath a good actor to play, bring it to life, and portray the man Reeves was in the real world. It was a wonderful exercise in acting. Especially for a person that never really wanted to play Superman in the first place. Consider other actors that time and time again are in Superhero roles that fail (whether it's their fault or not) and continue to return in some form to the Genre. Affleck only portrayed one Hero, a great hero, but not a top tier character like Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, etc. He didn't do a terrible job, he did well with what he had, and that's just being realistic. This will be a great franchise for Affleck to take on; he will be able to completely bring to life, what may very well end up being, the definitive Batman.
