3. This Is Not Going To Be The Batman You'd Expect, Unlike Anything Before
The 60s had Adam West, what I'd regard as the campy Sherlock Holmes Batman. The late 80s (early 90s) started with a very dark and Gothic Batman. It was too dark (at least for the moms) and many folks still argue Michael Keaton wasn't right for the role. Schumacher took the property over and dumbed it down, added nipples, and made WB/DC a fortune in merchandising toys for young Batman fans. Nolan gave us the most realistic (we'll leave that colloquialism intact, why not) Batman. Snyder isn't trying to redo any of the above. He's not trying to reinvent the wheel, or even recreate the character. He's simply trying fit the character into Superman's world, the same world that will eventually have the rest of the Justice League in it. This is a very different kind of Batman, one we've yet to ever see on film. We've seen plenty in animated features and series. Never live. Affleck will be bringing this very specific type of Batman to life. Consider this argument: Bale, Kilmer, Keaton, Clooney, even West; let's be completists in this assessment. None of their takes on Batman would make sense standing next to Superman, Green Lantern, or Wonder Woman. Those "Batmen" might as well stick to saving cats from trees.
