10 Overlooked Horror Slasher Movies That Deserve Your Attention

1. Cold Prey

The Prowler 1981
Anchor Bay

Well known in slasher circles, but entirely alien to the mainstream, this ice-cold Norweigan slasher didn't do anything to reinvent the wheel but spun it so perfectly that its lack of innovation can be completely stricken from the record.

Set in the snowy mountains of Jotunheimen, this deep-freeze chiller sees a group of young twenty-somethings embark on a snowboarding holiday, only for disaster to strike as one of their crew breaks his leg after a nasty tumble. The group decided to seek refuge in a nearby lodge but are immediately set upon by a killer decked out in heavy winter-wear - one that will stop at nothing to see the entire group dead.

Sure, the plot is pretty standard stuff for the genre, but Cold Prey excels in its chilling atmosphere, great performances, and all-around intensity. It's a surprisingly potent thriller that will manage to catch even the most hardened of genre fans off guard.

Dark, suspenseful, and above all else deeply compelling, this is one slasher film that you should put to the very top of the pile, alongside its two surprisingly great sequels. So, get the cold beers in and enjoy a trilogy of icy terrors.
