10 Overlooked Positives Of Divisive Upcoming Movies

9. The Idea Is Classic Pixar - The Good Dinosaur

Why The Film Is Questionable: 2014 became the first year since 2005 that Pixar didn't release a movie. The reason for that depressing factoid is The Good Dinosaur, which was pushed back a year after original director Bob Peterson was booted off the project when he couldn't make the narrative work. Now the company has turned troubled productions into masterworks before (see Ratatouille), but never so deep into development; the story, which in broad strokes deals with a world where the dinosaurs didn't go extinct, had to be totally rewritten. The Overlooked Positive: The Good Dinosaur may not be as confident as prospect as Inside Out (also coming in 2015), but it is still an enticing concept of the kind Pixar made their name for. In the early days, the studio was all about taking stray childhood musings - what if toys came alive, what if monsters lived in your closets - and giving them a real-world logic, which is something their recent output has been lacking; this decade so far has seen only one original idea (and a rather basic one at that). There may have been story issues, but the foundation of the idea that The Good Dinosaur is built on is certainly a strong one, in keeping of the studio's original ethos.
