10 Overlooked Positives of Sylvester Stallone's Judge Dredd
4. The Costumes Look Great
Of all comic book heroes, Judge Dredd's is perhaps one of the most difficult to get right on screen. What works well on the page doesn't always translate well to the screen, and Dredd's uniform has so many different elements to it that one can only imagine the nightmare the movie's costume designers faced in getting something that wouldn't look utterly ridiculous on film. Thankfully, for the most part, they succeeded. While the Judge here uniforms aren't exactly comic-book accurate, they do give the requisite sense of authority and totalitarianism, retaining the essentials (badge, helmet) and adding a nifty few touches of their own, to boot - most notably, the great-looking Lawgiver guns, a design which looks awfully similar to the little number Dredd can be seen handling in even in today's comics. As with everything else in the comics, they do go a little far - the crotch guard is particularly dopey looking, while the flying Lawmaster is ill-advised. Not least because the thing looks as though it can barely drive in a straight line on the ground, let alone several hundred feet in the air. The helmet looks great, though - and fits better than Karl Urban's ever does - it's just a shame that none of the Judges can keep the Drokking thing on for more than ten minutes.
