10 Overly-Optimistic Attempts To Launch A Movie Franchise

7. Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

From hiring a director with blockbuster experience to the ensemble cast of solid character actors led by two young, attractive English-accented protagonists and a story filled with plenty of mystical artifacts and mysterious MacGuffins, its clear that Disney were positioning Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as a potential franchise, with the production often being compared to Pirates of the Caribbean... but with sand.

All the ingredients are there on paper, the $150 million production just couldn't pull it off.

After recently being burned yet again by Assassin's Creed, fans are still waiting for the first great feature-length video game adaptation. Disney thought they had nailed it with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but the movie didn't receive the kind of enthusiastic critical and commercial response that the Mouse House was after despite earning $336.4 million at the box office.

The final product was an entirely predictable and highly forgettable CGI-heavy adventure that has some decent moments, but none that you can instantly recall off the top of your head. Disney has had several attempts to try and recapture the Pirates of the Caribbean formula in a different setting, but when the Pirates sequels themselves can't manage it then what chance does any other movie really have?

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
