However, Dakota Fanning made for an eerily similar Melanie Smooter to Reese Witherspoon's adult protagonist. Fanning was only eight years old when Sweet Home Alabama was released and she already had several Hollywood hits under her belt. There's no denying that she was a very talented kid and she matched the talent of Witherspoon, who was twenty years her senior. They had the same drawl, the same bright eyes, and the same pure blonde locks. I had no problem believing that Melanie Smooter was both Dakota Fanning and Reese Witherspoon - what a lucky lady.
