8. A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge

Freddy's Revenge has long been the most divisive entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street series. A lot of this owes to how badly it breaks the rules established by the original movie, but much of it is also down to how the film's not-so-subtle homoerotic subtext left some viewers uncomfortable. This is a shame as, while it certainly isn't without its problems, it's one of the more interesting, unique and memorable outings for the villainous Freddy Krueger.

In any case, Freddy's Revenge boasts a few of the most iconic moments for the scar-faced, claw-handed killer, the most notable for our purposes taking place at a pool party. Now, given that this writer is from Britain where it's always cold and nobody has pools in their own back yards, pool parties in movies have always had a strange fascination. For one thing, everyone's drinking, then they get in the water.

Come on, does no one remember the old rules about not swimming after eating? I'm sure booze counts as well!

Perhaps this disregard for basic pool safety upsets old Freddy too, as - in perhaps the film's most flagrant breaking of the established rules - Freddy emerges in physical form to rip the party up as only he can, with the immortal declaration, "You are all my children now!"
