Who will be the next Avengers level threat?

When Samuel L. Jackson first appeared as Nick Fury at the end of the first Iron Man, Marvel fans worldwide pondered over the possibilities of what the future of this new cinematic universe of sorts could be. What if the Incredible Hulk made an appearance? Maybe Captain America? The possibilities were endless.

This simple act of implanting little details that become huge later on is a big part of what makes the MCU so great. To the point that some people find the post-credit scene teasing at future projects at the end of each movie more exciting than the film itself.

This is something that Marvel continues to do with each of its new movies and now TV shows, and with the MCU hitting a significant event with Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness in just a few weeks, it’s essential to look back at all the little things that foreshadow future events to have a clear idea of what’s to come soon.

These range from unexpected deaths that will bring significant consequences to events that perfectly parallel notable storylines from the comics, such as Secret Wars and House of M, implying that we’ll be seeing similar stories in the future.

Expect spoilers for all currently released phase 4 projects ahead.

10. Red Guardian Vs Captain America - Black Widow

During the events of the first proper phase 4 MCU film Black Widow, there’s a running gag surrounding the character of Alexis. He claims at multiple points in the movie that he fought Captain America during the Cold War, something that should have been impossible considering Steve Rogers was frozen during this time.

However, even though this is played for laughs, there’s no actual payoff or confirmation that what the Red Guardian is saying here is a lie or not, and with The Falcon And The Winter Soldier confirming that attempts at new super-soldiers have been made, there is a possibility that what Alexis is saying here may be the truth.

There are multiple evil versions of Captain America in the comics, including characters like William Burnside, who looks and acts precisely like Steve Rogers and takes the hero's place post World War II. With this in mind, it's possible that Alexis didn't fight the Captain America, but possibly a Captain America.

This may be a joke for the movie and nothing more, but it’s equally as possible that Marvel is foreshadowing something much bigger and that we’ll see develop in future projects.
