3. Vic Morrow, Myca Dinh Le & Renee Shin-Yi Chen - Twilight Zone: The Movie
The combination of talented directors including John Landis, Joe Dante and Steven Spielberg should be enough to guarantee the huge success of any movie - bring this talent together to make an anthology of shorts based on the timeless classic TV series The Twilight Zone and the studio should be sure to have a huge hit on their hands. Unless, of course, tragedy strikes, which is precisely what happened during filming of the first segment of The Twilight Zone: The Movie. John Landis helmed a segment about a bigoted and racist man who suddenly finds himself hopping through time Quantum Leap-style into the bodies of the very people he despises. One particular sequence called for the use of a helicopter - tragically, after being hit by explosive pyrotechnics effects the vehicle crashed on top of the cast, killing three actors including 2 young children. In the aftermath, Hollywood radically revised the way in which it used children in scenes featuring dangerous effects, while Spielberg - already angered by Landis's use of live ammunition on set and other production code violations - severed ties with his former friend.
