10 Perfect Casting Choices For The Stand Remake

1. Stuart Redman - Mark Ruffalo

Played in the mini-series by: Gary Sinise Stuart Redman, of Arnette, Texas, was one of the first people to witness the sheer devastation of the Super Flu, when Charles Campion crashed his car into Bill Hapscomb's gas station. Luckily for Stu, he was one of the 0.06% of the world's population who was immune. He watched all of his friends get sick and eventually die while he was locked up in the Centers for Disease Control and prevention headquarters. Escaping, Stu ultimately ends up in Boulder and becomes The Boulder Free Zone's chairman and chief law officer. He is the unquestioned leader along with Mother Abagail. Not a man of many words, he leads by example. Finally, he sets off for the climactic confrontation in Vegas with Flagg, where only one will come out on top. Gary Sinise was amazing in the role of Stuart Redman and, were he younger, he would be the first choice to play the stoic character once more. Sadly, he is not. Mark Ruffalo is an actor of similar ilk to Sinise. An 'every-man' performer who can parlay his immense acting skills to transform into the small town, working class hero from The Stand. Ruffalo, who has a vault full of stellar acting credits to his name including truly amazing performances in Zodiac and Shutter Island, fits the mould of Stu Redman to the core.
