10 Perfect Horror Movie Lines

6. "No Tears, Please! It's A Waste Of Good Suffering." - Hellraiser

American Psycho
New World Pictures

1987's Hellraiser introduced pop culture to the Cenobites. These inter-dimensional travelers are revealed to be former humans who have lost themselves so thoroughly in exploring extreme physical sensation that they can quite literally no longer differentiate between pleasure and pain. The Cenobites can be summoned to humanity's dimension through the use of a mysterious puzzle box, much to the detriment of the unfortunate individual solving it.

There was something uniquely terrifying about these sadomasochistic beings in the original installment, a trait that was perhaps lost to an extent across the later installments. The absolutely nightmarish visage of the creatures in various states of excruciating self-mutilation, along with their mercilessly matter-of-fact tones, fused to create some of the more chillingly memorable horror antagonists of the 1980s.

Furthermore, the Cenobites' dialogue perfectly encapsulated their terrifyingly inexorable nature as antagonists. While "No one escapes us" and "Perhaps we prefer you" both also qualify as suitably masterful soundbites for inclusion upon this list, no line possesses more notoriety amongst horror fans than the almost indignant words of the Cenobites' leader - affectionately dubbed Pinhead - spoken to Ashley Laurence's Kirsty, as she tearfully pleads with the creatures to show mercy and reconsider taking her to their realm of unspeakable horrors.

"No tears, please! It's a waste of good suffering."

A merciless line perfectly emblematic of the Cenobites' legendary inability to distinguish agony from ecstasy, expertly crafted and delivered to boot.
