10 Perfect Horror Movie Lines
3. "Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?" - American Psycho
"Did you know I'm utterly insane?"
While many might posit that American Psycho offers more memorable soundbites across the course of its depraved 101-minute run, one line arguably encompasses the film's tongue-in-cheek, yet certifiably insane aura, like no other.
Even when viewers heard the seemingly innocuous question posed by Christian Bale's serial murderer Patrick Bateman - as he dons a raincoat and positions a fire axe to prepare for the murder of Jared Leto's Paul Allen - for the first time, they knew something unspeakable was about to happen.
On second viewing, the innocent enquiry never fails to elicit a bizarrely contrasting audience reaction - an inward smirk at how utterly psychotic Bateman is, before a wave of unsettling fear due to the same realization and having seen the results before.
"Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?"
Firing up his stereo, Bateman launches into an impassioned critique of his beloved band while Allen drunkenly slumps in a chair, before picking up the axe and chopping up his guest in stomach-churning fashion. =
Each savage blow covering one side of his face with a fresh spray of blood, Bateman screams dementedly as Hip to Be Square blasts through the speakers, the music punctuated by the sound of his murderous implement chopping into flesh.
"TRY GETTING A RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW, YOU F**KING STUPID BASTARD!"
Yikes. Bale's inimitable psychopath then lights a cigar and proceeds to cooly survey his handiwork. Perfectly f**king unhinged.
