10 Perfect Horror Movie Lines

4. "I want to play a game." - Saw

"Hello Amanda. You don't know me, but I know you."

While John Kramer delivers numerous superb soundbites across the course of 2004's Saw, none possesses more notoriety or better epitomizes the depraved nature of the ensuing franchise than his chilling words to Amanda Young - the first person to escape one of the Jigsaw Killer's unspeakably vicious traps.

"I want to play a game."

Delivered in the most sinister of fashions by Kramer's nightmarish puppet Billy Jigsaw, Amanda is matter-of-factly informed that the game she is participating in requires her to remove a key from her dead cell-mate's stomach. Said key unlocks a particularly nasty looking bear-trap contraption which just so happens to be attached to her face and timed to eventually rip her jaw off.

Amanda manages to win the "game", barring the minor traumatic inconvenience of realizing that her unfortunate cellmate was still breathing.

For such an iconic line, the irony that it is oft misquoted by the wider fandom - believing it to be "Do you want to play a game?" - is not lost upon this writer.

Therein lies the true horrific perfection of the quote. The fan's interpretation would have it unfold as a question, but Kramer removes the element of choice from his one-liner; a terrifying representation of the franchise's mercilessly sadistic nature. When you're in one of Jigsaw's games, you win or you die and participation is not optional.
