7. Pandorum (2009)
Sometimes, you can't ask for anything more than to take a collection of characters, shoot them off into an unknown place, and force them to survive against a petrifying enemy. 2009s Pandorum does just that, and it's the kind of movie any sci-fi horror nut must have on their watch list.
The film is set on an interstellar ark heading to an Earth-life planet. However, things turn deadly after two astronauts awaken from their hypersleep, only to discover that a host of psychotic mutants have taken control of the ship.
You'll certainly not get bored with this film if you enjoy movies like Event Horizon or Alien, as the tense survival horror combined with the gritty sci-fi aesthetic is like both those movies on speed. However, it sets itself apart thanks to its focus on space-based psychosis, otherwise known as Pandorum.
Besides attempting to survive against the terrifying antagonists, the characters must maintain their mental fortitude, as breaking down could lead them into the same frenzied state as their pursuers. This combination of physical and psychological struggle makes for one hell of a tense ride.
