6. Haunted Trail

It may have a little bit of a wobble in its final five minutes, but Robin Givens' Haunted Trail is very much an underappreciated cracker, being one of the more stylish slashers of recent years.

From 2021, Haunted Trail focuses on, well, a haunted trail. As in, one of those creepy haunted house setups where you have a bunch of goofs in suits trying to scare the bejeezus out of you. While that in and of itself is a pretty terrifying proposition for some, making this even more unnerving is that an actual murderer is in amongst the masked maniacs trying to get a rise from some poor punters.

While some of the group are scared at every single turn of the staged elements of this trail, others boldly laugh in the face of this terror, cockily confident that, yes, this is staged, after all - in which instances, it's fun to watch those more brash, arrogant characters freaked out when it becomes apparent that what they're seeing is far from fake.

Tonally, Haunted Trail may start off a little more humourous than outright scary, but the tension and terror gets nicely amped up as the film ticks along.
