10 Perfect Slasher Horror Movies You've Never Heard Of
4. Blood Widow
As a caveat, 2014's Blood Widow is not a perfect slasher movie, but it earns itself a spot on the list largely down to how outright badass its titular villain is, both in terms of brutality and the sheer character design.
For lovebirds Hugh and Laurie, they move to their dream house out in the middle of nowhere, with an abandoned boarding school nearby. When their pals come over for a housewarming party, the group's decision to explore this old school puts them in the crosshairs of the Blood Widow, a clinical masked killer who is a former student of the school and nowadays calls it home.
Visually, the Blood Widow herself looks magnificent, and the film does have some impressively nasty moments of gore, including a particularly rough leg break sequence. And while the picture at times makes its killer a somewhat sympathetic figure, it thankfully doesn't go too deep down that path, reminding you that, regardless of her backstory, the Blood Widow is very much a twisted, sinister killer who takes great delight in her work.
Given the upside of Blood Widow, it's a major shame that a planned sequel has remained in development hell for the past ten years.
