10. Are Jaegers The Best Way Of Fighting Kaiju?
Guillermo del Toro's blockbuster love letter to the Japanese giant robot genre may not be winning an Academy Award any time soon, but it was a box office smash and we really, really got a kick out of it. What better backdrop to chucking a load of popcorn in your gob than Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi piloting an enormous, skyscraper-sized mecha to brawl with a load of Godzilla-esque monsters that have popped out of the ocean to menace humanity? None, that's what. Because Pacific Rim is awesome, and we're super pumped for the sequel. Fun though it was seeing the gigantic "Jaegers" come up against the colossal "Kaiju", we can't help but think it wasn't the most elegant or safe way of dealing with the problem. In this case the user asking the question suggested that a flying drone with a plasma cannon might have done a better job, or even a nuclear-powered spinning blade at the portal the Kaiju came through. Most users agreed that, awesome though they were, the Jaegers probably weren't the most effective way of fighting the monsters. One suggested a "Rod from God", a satellite armed with multi-tonne titanium rods that get dropped from space onto the Kaiju. Only one gave a real in-universe alternative, however, suggesting Ron Perlman's organ donor Hannibal Chau could harvest the deceased beasties and use them as weapons against themselves...
