10 Perplexing Sci-Fi Film Problems Solved By The Internet
7. What If Mr Incredible Was Nicer To Buddy?
You should never meet your heroes; you'll only be disappointed. Or worse, you could be Buddy Pine, an unrecognised wunderkind who attempts to become superhero Mr Incredible's sidekick, gets rejected by his idol, and grows up to become the supervillain Syndrome, who then attempts to destroy the man he once held up on a pedestal. Oh and the rest of his family, who all turn out to have superpowers too. Yeah, that might be worse than having somebody from Supernatural be a bit rude to you or something. The Incredibles is, for many, people's favourite of the Pixar movies, Brad Bird's family-friendly Watchmen about "banned" costumed folk coming out of retirement. One audience member posed a delicious "what if" scenario, however, that would have changed the celebrated film's plot totally. What if Mr Incredible hadn't just rejected Buddy outright? What if he'd even taken him up on his offer to be a sidekick? Well apparently he would become "Superman plus Batman" with the help of Buddy's advanced technology, effectively wiping out crime and becoming totally unstoppable within a year. And whilst the lawsuits against other superheroes force them into retirement, Mr Incredible and Incrediboy just go from strength to strength...rather suspiciously. It all ends with Buddy being just as morally questionable as the timeline in which he became Syndrome, it just took a little longer.
