10 Pettiest On Set Movie Feuds
7. Tommy Lee Jones, Professional Grump
Tommy Lee Jones has demonstrated two qualities during his Hollywood career: excellent acting ability, and world class grumpiness. A serious thespian with grand ambitions, he has nonetheless had to take the odd blockbuster role to keep the lights on, and while some of them have been great - The Fugitive, Men In Black, others have been Batman Forever.
Jones does his best as Two Face, but he’s out of place in Joel Schumacher’s technicolour nonsense, and the dissatisfaction is easy to read on his perma-frowning mug. Part of the problem? He couldn’t stand working alongside Jim Carrey.
The Canadian funnyman was on the path to superstardom when he was cast as The Riddler, and when he spotted Jones in a restaurant, he decided to make his co-star’s acquaintance. Per Carrey, “the blood just drained from [Jones’] face” as he approached, with the taciturn Texan telling Carrey that he hated him, delivering the astonishing line “I cannot sanction your buffoonery”.
The two pros made it through the film, though Jones’ discomfort makes more sense. As for Carrey - when you’re getting paid that much, you can withstand a lot of jabs.
