10 Pettiest On Set Movie Feuds

3. Val And Tom Compare Pay Cheques

Terminator Salvation Ending

Casting a film with two big egoed alpha males is always a potential powder keg. To do so when neither is anywhere near the apex of their careers, though, is just asking for problems. 2000’s Red Planet was headlined by the notoriously difficult Val Kilmer and the publicly troubled Tom Sizemore, and it can have shocked no one that things didn’t go well.

While they went into the project as pals, things went sour for the two fading stars when Kilmer learned that Sizemore’s exercise machine had been shipped to the set at the production’s expense. Kilmer antagonised his co-star by comparing their respective pay - $10 million to Tom’s $2 (so presumably Val felt that he should have had five exercise machines delivered).

Sizemore’s rebuttal: launching a 50 pound weight at the former Batman. Things became untenable from there, and body doubles were used wherever possible. Things eventually came to blows, but at the urging of a producer, the professional Sizemore punched Kilmer in the chest, rather than the face.

The two have reportedly patched things up since. These things happen in the heat of the moment, but this kind of passion would be best saved for a film that isn’t the execrable Red Planet.
