8. Finse, Norway Planet Hoth
Many argue that the Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars film of all time. I actually agree and other than the startling revelation at the end of the movie (I'll try not to give away any spoilers for the 0.0001% of the world that does not know what happens), the part that drew me most to the movie were the AT-AT's trekking across the snow to take out Echo Base. In that moment, the scope of those monstrous machines made you realize how little of a chance the Rebellion stood against the mighty Empire. Another great moment from Hoth is when Luke disappears for hours on end in a Wampa cave and Han goes out to find him. After finding Luke near death, Han stuffs Luke inside of a dead Tauntaun in order to keep him alive through the frigid night...good times. If you want to have good times like Luke and the Rebellion, the area of Finse (pronounced fin-SAH), Norway is the place to visit. It's the area where the crew and cast spent their time while filming the majority of the outdoor scenes of the planet Hoth. Conditions at times were a whiteout and the weather often dropped below 0°F. Needless to say, I'm sure the cast was pretty miserable at times. I hesitated putting this location on the list because Norway is, well, cold and the only way to get there is by railway since there are no public roads. But it's such a unique location and essential to the Original Trilogy, so I couldn't leave it off. After you take photos of yourself in a Tauntaun sleeping bag, you can participate in cross-country skiing or even sail skiing (skiing with a parachute apparently)! See, tons of stuff to do...
Cost: 249-399 øre round trip train ticket from Oslo, Norway (nearest major town) to Finse.
