10 Planned Comic Book Movie Scenes We’ll Never Get To See

5. Riddler Pulls A Fast One

Another moment from Batman Forever that would have slightly changed the audience's perception of The Riddler would have seen him pull a visual trick on us as well as on Batman. In the original script for Forever, during the final showdown on Claw Island, the Riddler was revealed sitting on a throne when Batman comes across him, except it's not the Riddler as we'd grown accustomed. Instead he's a hulking version - suggesting the use of venom or something similar - gripping skulls decorating the throne and cutting a surprisingly imposing figure. But then, as Batman approaches - and in another very Joker-like trick - The Riddler would twist the skulls on his armrests and the muscular outer body would be revealed as nothing more than a shell, which splits in two, revealing the real Riddler within, in his normal guise. It would not only have been a nice humorous touch for Carrey to play up to, it would also offer a smart allegorical note on Batman's own internal conflict, and the contradiction of the monstrous exterior and the more frail, more penetrable man within. Like the Joker statue in Burton's Batman, it's clear that the scene almost made it into the final film, as the description made it into the kids' novelization tie-in, and in the video game tie-in.
