10 Planned Movie Sequels To Failed Franchises

7. Batman Triumphant

Of course, Halle Berry's Batman wasn't the only travesty in the failure of the Batman franchise in the 1990s. There was also Batman & Robin, with Arnold Schwarzenegger's bad-punning Mr Freeze, an interpretation of Bane that should make everyone thankful for Tom Hardy's version in The Dark Knight Rises, Chris O'Donnell's Robin and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. Bat credit cards, Elle Macpherson stumbling in as some sort of love interest for Bruce, George Clooney almost destroying his movie career as it got started and those god-awful nipples - fans don't need any more reminding of how truly awful this franchise-destroying film was. But there were plans for another. After the execs at WB saw the dailies for Batman & Robin, they were impressed enough to commision a fifth Batman film - yes whatever they were smoking at the time will remain a mystery to the end of days. A script was written by Mark Protesevich, featuring a returning George Clooney as Batman and Chris O€™Donnell as Robin. Thus time they would face the Scarecrow (who eventually got his debut in Batman Begins) and Harley-Quinn, who - wait for it - was out for revenge against Batman for killing her father, The Joker. Both Jeff Goldblum and Nicholas Cage were rumoured for the part of the Scarecrow, with Courtney Love also rumoured for Harley-Quinn. Even bigger was the fact that Jack Nicholson would€™ve have reprised his role as the Joker for a Scarecrow fear gas-hallucination. Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey were apparently also offered cameos in the film as their respective baddies. The apparent plot would have seen Batman and Robin at odds, only to be reunited in the final battle, Jonathan Crane / the Scarecrow discovering Batman's real identity and teaming up with Harley to force Batman to embrace his madness and end up in Arkham Asylum. But then the fans saw Batman & Robin, George Clooney vowed never to play Batman again, director Joel Schumacher claimed he had 'lost his passion' for Batman films and the franchise died until Christopher Nolan saved it with the reboot Batman Begins eight years later...
