10 Planned Movie Sequels To Failed Franchises

8. Catwoman (The Batman Returns Spin-Off)

Batman Returns might not get quite the acclaim of the Dark Knight trilogy, with Tim Burton's nightmarish focus on the three villains, but what great villains they were! Danny Devito's corrupt, deformed Penguin made him a far more fascinating and repulsive character than his crime lord with a penchant for umbrellas origin. Christopher Walken was brilliant as the meglomaniac Max Shreck, an original character for the movies (rumours are that he was originally going to be Harvey Dent and be scarred horrifically at the end). And of course there was Michelle Pfeiffer as the sexy, deranged Selina Kyle / Catwoman with a performance that has yet to be beaten in the movies. Given Catwoman's survival at the end of Batman Returns, plans were underway for a spin-off, directed by Tim Burton and written by Daniel Waters, who wrote the Batman sequel. The very dark script that would have seen Selina Kyle move to a small town where superheroes have turned bad. It was the primary reason why she wasn't set to appear in Burton's planned third Batman movie. Sadly, the Catwoman script was rejected for being too dark and WB went with the 'lighter' Batman Forever, the first major step to the dreaded Batman & Robin. But something far worse was about to happen, far worse even that nipples on the bat suit. Halle Berry took on the role of Catwoman in a solo movie and dreams of more Pfeiffer in the role died forever...
