10 Planned Movie Sequels To Failed Franchises

3. Alien 5 (Earth War)

Alien 5 is finally happening with Neil Blomkamp - well at least once Ridley Scott makes his Prometheus sequel - and it is set to feature Ripley and a returning Hicks and Newt. But there were plans to follow up Alien: Resurrection in a story that would have dealt with Ripley and Call landing on Earth. Among the wasteland that was the planet, new aliens would emerge and it would have become something akin to the Earth War featured in the novels that followed Aliens. Sigourney Weaver was not interested in an Earth-based Aliens film, preferring to franchise to be set in the distant horrors of space and Joss Whedon's ideas for Alien 5 never saw the light of day. With the critical mauling Alien: Resurrection got - and given the equal dissatisfaction with Alien 3 - the franchise died for good. Scott's Alien: Paradise Lost has put a hold on Blomkamp's Alien 5 for now, but fans are holding out hope that we will get to see Ripley battle xenomorphs at least one more time.
