10 Pointless Characters In Horror Movie Sequels
1. Jacob Branson - Alien: Covenant
If you were paying attention to the marketing campaign for Ridley Scott's second entry into his Alien prequel series, Alien: Covenant, you might have assumed James Franco's Jacob Brandson was a lead character. This assumption would have been very wrong.
Franco appeared extensively in the marketing campaign for Covenant, featuring in promo images alongside the prologue 'Last Supper', which was released on YouTube.
Despite all this hype, Franco is barely even in Covenant, with his character dying within the first ten minutes of its runtime. He is then seen in one very brief pre-recorded message, before vanishing from the movie altogether.
His abrupt death would be acceptable if it served a purpose, but it doesn't. While it could be argued that it gives the lead character, Katherine Waterston's Daniels, motivation, she hardly ever brings him up and seems to get over his death rather quickly. All of this leaves Brandson as a totally inconsequential character.
He could have at least been killed by an alien.
