10 Pointless Characters In Horror Movie Sequels

9. Officers Francis And Richards - Halloween

It's worth stating right off the bat that 2018's Halloween is a great movie. Directed by David Gordon Green, it acts as a direct sequel to the original, ignoring all the previous entries. This decision works as it's the first time since the original that Michael Myers truly strikes fear into the audience.

However, it still has plenty of issues, mainly in the script department, which was penned by Green, Jeff Fradley, and Danny McBride.

There are numerous moments during the movie in which we cut to useless side characters, many of whom only appear for one scene, to see them being brutally killed by Myers. While this works to show us how powerful Myers is, it lessens the impact as we have no connection to the characters.

The biggest offenders are Officers Francis and Richards, who appear in the final act to be gruesomely murdered by Myers. This wouldn't be a major issue if the two didn't sit and talk about brownies for five minutes before being killed.

While it's clear that this is an attempt at comic relief, it doesn't work. It only slows the movie down and ruins the pacing.

These two pointless characters could have easily been cut from the movie.
