10 Pointless Characters In Horror Movie Sequels
3. Man On The Island - A Quiet Place Part 2
The post-apocalyptic world of A Quiet Place is ripe for interesting characters, and for the most part, the series has delivered. A Quiet Place Part 2 introduced us to the fantastic Emmett, who is a man on the edge after living through the death of his family. While he is great, Emmett isn't the only interesting character introduced in the sequel.
As the narrative moves into its third act, we're introduced to the character of the Man On the Island, who is living a relatively peaceful life with his son, away from the chaos on the mainland. The small community in which they live has taken advantage of the creatures' secondary weakness: they can't swim.
Through his discussions with the Man, Emmett learns that he is a hardened character who has had to endure a great deal of suffering and loss. All of these memories are brought back to him when a creature is revealed to have stowed away on a boat and begins to indiscriminately murder the island's inhabitants.
It is here that the Man reveals to the audience just how useless he is. He seemingly has no plan with how to deal with the creatures upon their arrival and later inexplicably shouts at Emmett, getting himself killed.
The script leads us to believe that the Man is not only smarter, but will also play some form of pivotal role in the war against the creatures. He doesn't.
