10 Popular Songs You Didn't Know Were Written Solely For Movies

1. 9 To 5 - Dolly Parton

Written For: 9 to 5 (1980)

This classic Dolly Parton song detailing the trials and tribulations of the average workplace was actually written to be the theme of the 1980 comedy film, starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton herself. The film revolves around Fonda, Tomlin and Parton as they try and stay ahead in their office jobs whilst being bossed around by their misogynistic boss.

The song embodies much of the same themes, making it a perfect companion for the movie, as well as being enjoyable an enjoyable song to listen to in its own right. The popularity of this song also gave way to a West End musical of the same name, demonstrating how much of a favoured song this has become.
