10 Popular Songs You Didn't Know Were Written Solely For Movies

2. What's New Pussycat? - Tom Jones

Written For: What's New Pussycat? (1965)

Sung by Welsh singer Tom Jones, the title track of this film has become nothing short of amazing, earning itself an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song in 1966. The track is one of Jones' most memorable, peaking at No. 3 in the USA, and remaining a classic song decades after it was first commissioned for film.

The film, written by Woody Allen and starring Peter O'Toole, follows a man who can't seem to avoid the fact that every woman he meets falls madly in love with him, even though he wishes to remain faithful to his wife.

With the likes of Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress and Allen himself in a minor role, What's New Pussycat? is definitely a praiseworthy film, especially so considering it gave us this Tom Jones hit.
