10 Possible New Directions For The DCEU After Michael Keaton's Return

3. Canon, But Not As We Know It

Similar to the potential narrative minefield created by having multiple versions of Batman existing at the same time, his arch-nemesis could also end up creating confusion if Matt Reeves decides that he wants his rebooted franchise to have its own version of the Joker.

Jared Leto's time as the Clown Prince of Crime is seemingly over, and Joaquin Phoenix isn't exactly the type of actor to sign on for sequels, but the introduction of the multiverse means that both interpretations of the iconic villain can exist in the same space without stepping on each other's toes.

Reeves appears to be adamant that The Batman exists outside of canon, and for all intents and purposes Todd Phillips' Joker was a one-and-done effort, but the mere existence of the DCEU's multiverse will reinforce the idea that both will technically be considered part of the same universe, they just happen to take place in a different reality.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
