10 Post-Credits Movie Scenes That Change Everything

Which stings were worth waiting around for?

The end of a movie used to instigate to a mad dash to get out before the national anthem started playing. Nowadays if you walk out of a film while the credits are still rolling you'll be met with looks of scorn for willingly leaving before the whole thing is over. All thanks to the post-credit scene.

Teasing what's to come or paying off unresolved plot points, an after-credit sting has become a staple of blockbuster cinema, forcing more obsessively inclined fans to stick around until the very end lest they miss what is now deemed very much part of the experience. Cinema workers can grumble, but for audiences they just provide a bit of extra bang for your buck. Well, unless it's criminally uncreative.

Not everyone's going to churn out a Marvel-level tease, but sometimes it feels like film-makers have jumped on the bandwagon without really trying. 22 Jump Street, a film which made incredible use of its credits to map out the future of the cynical franchise, let everyone down a bit with a sting that merely revisited the first movie's villains in jail. Although that's nothing compared to the worst recent example - The Amazing Spider-Man 2's tease of the X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Only there to satiate a contractual obligation between director Marc Webb and 20th Century Fox, it was intended to build hype for Bryan Singer's film, but really only sparked debate amongst fans about whether or not Spidey and the mutants would be meeting soon (and anyone who's up to date with superhero rights knows that ain't going to happen).

But today let's look on the more positive side of things. Stings are at their best when they're completely changing the movie, whether adding an extra layer to the story or pulling the rug from under the fans ready for an explosive sequel. Come along and see ten films that did just that, totally altering the movie long after most of the audience had left.
