10 Potential Film Franchises Perfect For A Female Star

4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy Emma Stone Originally a cheesy '90s teen pic, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a moderate success, but writer Joss Whedon was never entirely happy about the lightweight tone and quality of the movie. As a result, there was some fairly serious reworking of the character and story when he created the TV spinoff. That show, of course, became one of the biggest cult hits of the last couple of decades with a loyal fanbase and pop cultural influence well beyond its viewing figures. Running for 7 seasons, the continuity has been continued in comics and there have been numerous calls from fans to get the original cast back together for a movie. The movie rights, however, still rest with the original film's husband and wife producer-director team Kaz and Fran Rubel Kuzui. Any film franchise that they produce is likely to be a reboot of the first movie rather than a continuation of the TV storyline. How likely is it? A new Buffy is a project that has been in quite serious development for a few years now. In 2010, Warner Brothers picked up the Kuzui reboot. The TV show's fans' objections to a new version and new personnel has provided the project with a potential stumbling block, but a greater issue has been getting the script right. Writer Whit Anderson had her screenplay rejected by the producers last year because: "It was pretty cool but in the end there just wasn't enough on the page." So Buffy is looking for a new writer, but it's still a film that will almost certainly happen sooner or later. In principle, a new Buffy is not a bad idea, though - like Xena - it may need to wait until the show is a little less fresh in people's minds. Who should star? Fans of the show may not be keen on recasting in practice, but that hasn't stopped them from making suggestions in theory. Rumoured casting choices include Heather Morris (from Glee) and Candice Accola (The Vampire Diaries). The best suggestion to come up so far, though, is Emma Stone. Full of the right sort of high school wit and charm in the excellent Easy A, Stone also showed she is capable of lifting the quality of a rather pointless reboot with The Amazing Spider-Man. On top of that, she showed excellent skill in fighting legions of the undead in Zombieland.
