10 Potentially Awesome Movies Still To Come In 2013

9. Gravity (Oct 4 US, Nov 8 UK)

Gravity Alfonso Cuaron's massively anticipated sci-fi film could very well reinvent the language of cinema if he can pull it off. George Clooney and Sandra Bullock play a pair of astronauts who wind up stranded in space after their shuttle endures catastrophic damage. Though not a position any of us are likely to find ourselves in, the clips released so far make it clear that Cuaron has hammered home the absolutely terrifying nature of the premise, replete with astounding visuals (by way of extremely long takes), which absolutely must be seen in IMAX 3D. The Buzz: Gravity screened at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday to a rapturous response from critics, currently sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after 12 reviews, with an extremely impressive average score of 9/10. Though we can expect that score to take a slight dip in the coming weeks, it's a very good sign that Cuaron has crafted a thoughtful, jaw-dropping slice of sci-fi to sit up there with the greats (some have favourably compared it to Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey).
