5. Gears of War
Studios are often very tentative around the idea of adapting video games and only deal in the most popular and successful like Resident Evil and Prince of Persia. A Gears of War movie has been talked about since 2007 and Len Wiseman was attached to direct but New Line Cinema eventually relinquished the rights to the series so news on an adaptation has been scarce until late. Recently, producer Scott Stuber who has worked on the likes of Ted, Battleship and The Wolfman has begun developing the movie alongside Epic Games, the creators of the insanely popular game. Whilst no director or talent has been officially linked to the film, it's impossible to think that the budget for the movie wouldn't be in the hundreds of millions as Gears of War is a grandiose story with a lot of large scale action sequences. Whilst progress appears to be being made, seeing Gears of War in a cinema is still several years away, but it's good to see that it's going in the right direction, and that is out of development hell.
