9. Alita: Battle Angel
What's It About?
This nineties comic series was created by Yukito Kishiro and tracks the adventures of Alita, a cyborg found on the scrapheap, intent on tracing her origins. The one thing she does remember, though, is how to whoop some ass. Thus begins her journey across a dystopian world. Think of her as Robo-Bourne.
Who's In It?
Battle Angel has been James Cameron's metal baby since the early noughties, but due to various commitments and some lanky blue aliens, the project never took off. Now, though, the project has been handed over to Robert Rodriguez, working from Cameron's own script. Maze Runner star Rosa Salazar is something of a casting coupe as the titular heroine and she is supported by Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali and Jackie Earle Haley.
Why It'll Be Awesome
Cameron rarely writes a bad script, and he is a dab hand at bringing real, ballsy heroines to the big screen; throw into the mix the promise of a techno blend of live action and CGI effects, series's famous Motorball sport (look it up, it's brutal) making an appearance, plus Rodriguez's pulpy direction and this looks to be the comic book movie that will surprise us all.
