10 Potentially Great Marvel Movie Villains (That Were Grossly Underused)

1. Hela

Though still listed as one of Marvel's better villains, with Thor and the gang hanging out on Sakaar for most of the film, Hela's status as one of Marvel's greatest villains was robbed from her, with a plot that made her more of a "meanwhile" side story than a full on, looming, main event threat.

Blanchett did a fantastic job in the role, wholly threatening and queenly in equal measure, with a kind of maniacal glee and phenomenal power that clearly showed just how much fun she was having playing the powerful goddess. Due to the genre-bending enjoyment audiences had in Sakaar, however, there just wasn't enough antagonistic focus put on her to make her more important to the narrative than she was.

With her bloodlust and fighting skill, her superiority and raw power, her history with Asgard and Odin, her intention to rule one of the MCU's most powerful races as a military state, and her amazingly evocative costume design, Hela had all the makings of a truly great supervillain. She just... wasn't. And while she was fun and impressive for the time and attention she was given, it's a shame to see all that potential go to waste.

What do you think of these Marvel villains? Any others who didn't live up to their potential? Let us know down in the comments.
