10 Potentially Great Movies Ruined By One Character

2. Leo Getz - Lethal Weapon 2 - 4

Ruby Rhod in The Fifth Element isn't the first over-the-top "comical" character to have ruined a potentially great movie - Leo Getz (played by Joe Pesci) managed to do the same in not just one but three movies. Appearing in Lethal Weapon 2, 3 and 4, few other characters have let down otherwise great movies quite so consistently. No doubt Getz was supposed to be a little bit annoying - it's hard to imagine director Richard Donner sat there watching the takes oblivious to just how grating and obnoxious Pesci's delivery of the lines is. Which leads you to wonder just why they saw fit to include him in two more sequels, throughout which the character somehow - miraculously - manages to becoming even more unbearable. Presumably Pesci was lured onto the project by a hefty paycheck, but after seeing his excruciating performance as Leo Getz it's difficult to return to his great roles in Martin Scorsese's gangster epics and take his psychopath act quite as seriously. That said, Home Alone wasn't exactly his finest hour, either.
