10 Potentially Great Movies Ruined By One Character

3. Will Turner - Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl

With such a flamboyant character as Jack Sparrow dominating the screen in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, it was only natural that the co-protagonist would be somewhat more sedated and serious by comparison - after all, two Sparrow-like characters in the same film would be too much for even the most hardcore Depp fan to stomach for over 2 hours. But serious is one thing - plain and boring is quite something else. Will Turner, the blacksmith turned pirate who finds himself embroiled in Sparrow's antics in a bid to save the love of his life, Elizabeth Swann, from the undead pirates led by Barbossa, might have been better suited as a carpenter, so wooden and rigid is his personality. It's difficult to imagine the character faring any better had it been portrayed by someone other than Orlando Bloom - the problem lies with the character himself; straight man to Sparrow's clown devoid of any defining personality traits beyond being so unshakably straight-laced. Will Turner disappeared from the franchise after the third installment - unfortunately by that point too many other factors had arisen lowering the quality of the series, so his exclusion did little to improve matters.
