10 Potentially Great Movies Ruined By One Character

6. Mutt Williams - Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Another predictable, by the numbers box ticking character we all should've seen coming is without a doubt the mouthful of a name Henry "Mutt Williams" Jones III from the equally long-winded Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. They'd had Indie's dad in The Last Crusade so his son was sure to follow. As cliched as the son/sidekick dynamic is and as much as many of us anticipated it, nothing could prepare us for just how inappropriate and unwanted the result would be. And as bad a Shia LaBeouf is in the role - and he deserves all the criticism he gets - it's unlikely that another actor would've portrayed the character any better. As unnecessary as he was predictable, Mutt's inclusion in Crystal Skull detracted what audiences wanted from Indiana Jones's long-awaited return to the screen - the man himself. You only have to look at A Good Day to Die Hard to remind yourself that poorly written offspring is the life essence of late stage sequelitis.
