10 Precise Moments Horror Icons Stopped Being Scary
6. A Nightmare On Elm Street - Freddy Krueger The Catch Phrase King
Freddy Krueger has long been the epitome of horror movie icons. Heralding in waves of copycats, remakes, and reboots - he's had a long and hard existence at the top. We can definitely revoke his scary card at this point.
Starting out as a genuinely terrifying burned monster that skulks through the dreamworld, Freddy had both an original premise and a definitive look, both of which served to make him scarier than most. 1984's A Nightmare On Elm Street was the birth of something truly special for horror, and A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge was the death of it.
Choosing to pursue a much more comedic slasher villain, Freddy became a wise-cracking master of the one-liner, dropping both painful and hilarious puns at every opportunity. After the release of Freddy's Revenge, the nightmare dwelling monster didn't seem so bad - at least you'd get a good laugh in before he brutally murders you.
